After being on heavy rotation with Fid Q's video "Sihitaji Marafiki", songstress Yvonne Mwale is releasing a new video. The song "Familia Yangu" is her second single from her album "Kalamatila" that was released earlier this year on Caravan Records. It is available in all "Novel Idea" bookshops and iTunes.

"Familia Yangu" is the first song that the Zambian singer has recorded in Swahili. She says: "Most of my songs are written in the local languages of Zambia, sometimes mixed with English. But after coming to Tanzania I felt I needed to record something in Swahili as well." The new track is about the challenges that money can bring in a relationship.
Although it hasn't been more than a year since she released her debut album, Yvonne is not a new musician at all and can look back on a solid career in music. She won an award as "Best Upcoming Artist" in 2009. The same year she won the Music Crossroads Competition. In 2010 she toured eight countries in Europe and performed at the Lake of Stars Festival alongside Oliver Mtukuzi. In Tanzania she has gained recognition through a string of successful concerts, sharing the stage with the likes of Mzungu Kichaa, Fid Q, and international acts such as Maya Azucena, Bobby Rickets and Dobet Gnahoré. Just a few months ago she won the second prize in the Jahazi Jazz music competition, which included a cash prize and a chance to perform at the Jahazi Jazz festival in Zanzibar.
Currently, Yvonne is recording collaborations with artists from all over Africa and is set to start touring again at the end of this year.
The song "Familia Yangu" is available as part of her album "Kalamatila" on iTunes: http://itunes.apple. com/us/artist/yvonne-mwale/ id504536758
