2 injured in Soroti plane crash

A plane belonging to Soroti Civil Aviation Flying School on Monday afternoon crash landed in a bush injuring two students who were doing piloting exercise.
The accident that occurred at about 100 meters from Gweri secondary school in Gweri Sub-county at midday attracted hundreds of people to the scene.
“They were doing their routine exercises before the plane developed a mechanical problem,” an official who preferred told New Vision Online.
The two students who are training to become instructors sustained minor injuries and have been identified as George Mazige and Innocent Shwun.
“These were senior pilots having completed their course last year who are now training to become instructors since they excelled,” Geoffery Adoa the academy guild president said.

Hundreds of people gathered at the scene including district leaders like the LC5, the RDC and other senior district officials.
The acting director of the academy Ronald Ladiong said they are going to investigate the matter to ascertain the real cause of the accident.
“I have just arrived at the scene and what I can say is that we shall investigate because at the moment the two students involved in the accident have not told us what really happened,” Lodiong said.
Sources told New Vision Online that the plane is one of many purchased during President Idi Amin’s time.
