Last August, I wrote a column expressing my disappointment in George Zimmerman’s
trial after he was acquitted of the criminal charges that resulted from his 2012
killing of Trayvon Martin.
I wrote that column with the
intent to spark debate specifically to the American audience on at a time already
heated nationwide debate about race and self-defense and overall justice
system. But, I didn’t know if the story
of a murdered black teenage in Florida
would strike a chord with a wider audience. I received hundreds of emails and
comments from many peoples around the world; many of whom were puzzled,
particularly with the American’s gun laws.
The 17-year-old,Trayvon Martin,
who is black, was walking to his father’s home in a gated community in Sanford,
Florida., when a neighborhood-watch volunteer, then,28-year-old George
Zimmerman, spotted him. Zimmerman mistakenly profiled him as a “suspicious
person” and pursued him. In an ensuing physical struggle, Zimmerman shot
and killed Trayvon at close range with one bullet to the chest, claiming afterwards that he did so in
self-defense after Trayvon turned on him and threatened his life.
On my column I hinted that George Zimmerman might be acquitted of murder
under the justice system; but, an acquittal would not equal a moral
exoneration. This led to the, responses including the accusation that “I was
merely suffering from a terminal case of wishful thinking or I was seriously
deluded”
I still stand by my original proposition, to be even blunter, I also
believe that KARMA always finds a way to justice.
Because when you get punished for something
you do it can be beneficial to your conscious. It allows you to put it behind
you and start fresh. The conscious is set free.
When you are not punished for
committing a serious crime such as murder you carry it around with you wherever
you go and in whatever you do. Zimmerman feels that way now because he got away
with murdering Trayvon Martin.
Consider
this: since his acquittal in last July, Zimmerman has been pulled over three
times for traffic violation. He was ticketed for doing 60 mph in a 45 mph zone
in Lake Mary Dallas in July and was given a warning for
speeding.
His
latest run-in with the law happened last week in Florida , he was charged with felony
aggravated assault after he allegedly pointed a shotgun at his live-in
girlfriend Samantha Scheibe, after she ordered him to move out.
“I need police right now," she is
heard pleading. "He's in my house breaking all my things because I asked
him to leave. He has his frickin' gun breaking all my stuff right now,"
adding in an aside to Zimmerman: "You just broke my glass table, you
broke my sunglasses and you put your gun in my frickin' face and told me to get
the f--k out—but this isn't your house."
According to the police report, when Police officers arrived at the
house, Zimmerman was barricaded himself inside the house. After he was
arrested, the police also found more than 100 rounds of ammunition,
12-gauge shotgun, an AR-15 assault rifle and three handguns inside the house.
Last September, it was his estranged wife, Shellie George who was on the
phone with 911, days after she filed divorce paper. She told a similar story of
Zimmerman in an out-of-control rampage. She reported that, Zimmerman punched
her father in the nose and threatened to shoot him.
The footage of altercation was captured on a Shellie’s iPad. Zimmerman took
a pocket knife to the iPad and then smashed it into
pieces before the police arrived. Police
could not extract the video from the iPad that appears to back up the story.
Once again Zimmerman walked free.
But, the odds
of his ex-wife, her father and his new girlfriend lying about his behavior are very
slim.
Zimmerman is a poster child of the broken justice system. He
had gotten away with murder before – perhaps- only God knows- he might prevail
on this one too. He operates in the belief that he can outsmart others, by
simply overplaying a victim card on his defense while portraying his accusers
as “punk”, thugs or “crazy”
But, it is almost insane to even imagine that his constant flouting
of the law will last him forever. It’s just a matter of time before his troubles
catches up with him and if he is luck enough- would at least- land him a
substantial jail time.

Good try Mr. Matope. Almost every body understood how Zimmerman's trial would end. This is because criminal cases in the USA stand on "beyond reasonable doubt" burden of proof, while those of civil, rely on "preponderance of evidence". You don't have to be a rocket scientist to understand that legal technicalities are not mathematical. The notion that you are trying to take credit for predicting an acquittal outcome is completely preposterous. Probably those who accused you of suffering from terminal case of wishful thinking, or seriously deluded are the ones who either don't have common sense, or often rely on 'udaku' magazine to determine what Diamond and Wema are up to. I don't think you were trying to degrade yourself to that category. Do you?. Additionally, it is not scientific that Trayvon's death is hunting Zimmerman, unless you come up with psychiatric evidence. Your hunting point does not carry any weight. If you stand on what you believe that is fine. However, you should know better that your belief may not necessarily reflect what everbody believes.
