Ulinzi in tough Cecafa pool

NAIROBI, Kenya, June 22- The Cecafa Kagame Cup Club Championship starts in Dar es Salaam and Morogoro, Tanzania over the weekend where Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Ulinzi Stars in a tough Group C of the competition.
Ulinzi, who have found their feet in their title defense after a stuttering start to the season have been pooled to against defending champions Rwanda's APR, losing finalists St Georges of Ethiopia and Ports of Djibouti and open their quest for regional glory against the Ethiopians on Monday.
The military side will warn up for Kagame Cup when they take on Western Stima in the final of the KPL Top 8 on Saturday, a match that will precede the LG Cup encounter between Harambee Stars and Sudan at Nyayo National Stadium.

Tanzania giants, Simba will kick-off the tournament that received Sh9m sponsorship from Tanzania Breweries Limited on Monday against Burundi's Vital O' on Saturday with their bitter domestic rivals, Young Africans (Yanga) taking on El Mereikh of Sudan a day later.
Twelve clubs, grouped in three pools, will feature in the two-week championship which ends on July 9. The teams start arriving in Dar on Wednesday.
A sponsor in Khartoum, Sudan, where the tournament had been scheduled to be hosted and financed by El Mereikh Football Club, has underwritten all air travel expenses for all visiting teams. President Paul Kagame, patron of the championship whose cup bears his name, will as, usual, provide the $60,000 [Sh5.4 million] prize money.

Pay satellite television provider, SuperSport will broadcast the tournament live.

“Everything is now falling in place and we expect a great tournament for the fans who will attend and for the millions throughout Africa who will be following through the thoroughly professional coverage of SuperSport,” Cecafa Secretary General Nicholas Musonye told reporters.

Some clubs have had serious preparations led by El Mereikh who have been camping in Nairobi and plan a build-up match against KPL side Tusker on Wednesday.

Yanga financed another KPL side, Gor Mahia to travel to Arusha for a friendly on the same day with the league runner-ups travelling by bus on Tuesday.
Yanga, the Tanzania champions, said they were looking forward to testing six newly signed players against Gor before the start of the Cecafa Cup.

The new recruits are, Pius Kisambale, Godfrey Tahita, Tony Ndollo, Julius Mrope, Said Mohammed and Shabana Kado.
