Manyatta Film Festival Screenings

PRESS RELEASE (TANZANIA):
Launch Of Manyatta Screenings August 2021 Short Film Festival

MANYATTA SCREENINGS 5th Edition takes place from 26th-29th August 2021. The biannual short film screening shows films from Greater Eastern Africa, including 10 of 15 countries. It’s our most diverse season yet.

Manyatta Screenings invites you to our Opening Night, a special premiere event planned for Thursday, 26th August 2021 at 7:30pm EAT, which will stream live from our broadcast partner Nuella.tv, and include a discussion with filmmakers. Audiences unable to catch the premiere will be able to watch the films thereafter on Nuella.tv, where they will remain accessible for a 72 hour period.

Manyatta Screenings August program is proud to include Tanzania’s Hatibu Yusuph Madudu’s BLACK FILM, which makes a mockery of our relationship with food. Dipesh Shapriya presents AHADI YA MBUNGE, a dramedy in a time of COVID-19 to follow an MP returning to his dilapidated home at the end of his term. Aggie Nyagari’s WORMHOLE is also set in a world enduring the pandemic, but takes a more fantastic turn.

Audiences of all ages will enjoy Kwame Nyongo’s animated short THE LEGEND OF LWANDA MAGERE, Kenya’s own Iron Man legend. Robert Gachie’s NDOTO recounts an everyman’s dream of making it big. As with films from the rest of the region, there’s drama, comedy, documentary and experimental work. Celebrated Kenyan actor Charles Ouda (MAKUTANO JUNCTION), returns to the screen with WIT’S END, which he wrote and directed.

Ethiopia’s Hiwot Admasu’s accomplishments precede her. Her film A FOOL GOD should not be missed. Hachimiya Ahamada’s RESIDENCE YLANG YLANG is a beautiful meditation on home from Comoros, which will resonate across the region. There’s also a strong showing from Uganda, Rwanda, and Reunion. We at Manyatta Screenings are proud to bring this group of talented filmmakers together to connect with audiences and celebrate each other’s work on the home ground, even in the midst of a pandemic. All films will have English subtitles.

This year Manyatta Screenings will recognize The Most Watched Film. It shall be tallied from Nuella.tv’s data, and will be announced by the close of the festival on Sunday, 29th August.

Tickets are available at 2 USD (Tsh 4,500 via Mobile Money) for full access to all four days of the festival. Audiences beyond the continent will pay a modest 4 USD. Tickets go on sale on Nuella.tv on the week of 9th August, 2021. Follow our social media handles @manyattascreens on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram for more information.
