Speaking at State House Nairobi, yesterday, when he met members of the commission, Uhuru said security was necessary for growth and economic development.
He said improved security was one of his top priorities.
The Head of State reaffirmed his commitment to strengthen the National Police Service as well as carry forward the agenda of police reforms.
In this regard, Uhuru commended the Service for the continued efforts in fighting crime and called on all stakeholders to work together.
Speaking during the meeting, the National Police Service Commission Chairman Johnston Kavuludi and Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo assured the President of commitment to ensuring the safety of Kenyans and their property.
Mr Kavuludi and Mr Kimaiyo also briefed the Head of State on the progress of the police reforms as well as the challenges facing the Police Service.
Present were Attorney-General Githu Muigai, Head of Public Service and Secretary to the Cabinet Francis Kimemia, Public Service Commission Chairperson Margaret Kobia and Internal Security Permanent Secretary Mutea Iringo.
Meanwhile, Government plans a major operation on Al-Shabaab militants and other organised gangs in the country. Iringo said the operation will also target Mombasa Republican Council (MRC) in the Coast.
He said the crackdown on Al-Shabaab will be conducted in North Eastern and Nairobi where most of the followers are hiding.
“In order to enhance security, we will launch an operation to eliminate the threat by Al Shabaab as well as the MRC at the coastal region,” he said at a meeting with religious leaders in Nairobi, yesterday.
