7TH ANNUAL JULIUS K. NYERERE COMMEMORATION

7th Annual Julius K. Nyerere Commemoration

Dear friends, Nyerere supporters, and fellow justice activists –

On Saturday, November 15, 2015, the Julius K. Nyerere Commemoration committee will convene its 7th Annual program commemorating the life and work of Julius Kambarage Nyerere (1st President of Tanzania) at Gallery Serengeti, located at 7919 Central Avenue, Capitol Heights, MD 20743 (301.808.6987) from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. We anticipate an exciting program and hope you will join us and the awesome justice fighters and stars who have agreed to participate this year.  Your support and participation is truly welcomed and encouraged. Elvira Williams of AHEAD has agreed to be our keynote speaker again this year. We intend to make this a fundraiser supporting AHEAD, led by Dr. Irving and Elvira Williams as they continue 40+ years of successful work improving maternal and infant health outcomes in Tanzania.

The Gallery is an apt venue for this important program, with its phenomenal Afrtican art displays, operated by Wisson West, who spent some of his formative years in Tanzania and has been a supporter of the Julius K. Nyerere Commemorations since their inception. In addition to our keynoter we will be joined by Luci Murphy, DC‘s own songstress extraordinaire; President General Senghor Jawara Heru Baye of The UNIA-ACL (Universal Negro Improvement Association – Africa Communities League) founded by Marcus Garvey in 1914; Fravia Marquez, First Secretary at the Political Area for the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela; Miguel Fraga, First Secretary of the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba; and the DC Labor Chorus.

We suggest a $25 donation (but will accept more if you are so inclined!) to support AHEAD, offset basic expenses, support and honor our artists (who we never take for granted), and to provide refreshments.

We encourage your participation in this annual endeavor to educate about and keep alive Mwalimu Nyerere’s mission by continuing the fight against poverty, ignorance and disease.
