Bell Geospace is pleased
to announce that one of their valued geoscientists, Dr James Mataragio
has been appointed to the post of Director General of the Tanzania
Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) by President Jakaya, effective
15th December 2014. During his tenure at Bell Geospace, Dr Mataragio has
been exposed to a variety of mineralisation and hydrocarbon projects,
which have contributed to the skill set and experience required by TPDC
for the role of Director General.
The appointment of Dr
Mataragio, who has worked for Bell Geospace since 2004, was announced in
a statement issued by Chief Secretary, Ambassador Ombeni Sefue, adding
that Dr Mataragio is among a few experts in minerals, oil and natural
gas in diaspora who volunteered advice to the government on development
of the sector. The chief secretary further said the president was
optimistic that Dr Mataragio will use his education, experience and
expertise to overhaul TPDC to become a real development engine and take
the nation's economy to new heights.
In his ten years with Bell
Geospace, Dr Mataragio has worked with a number of major international
oil and gas firms, including Petrobras (Brazil); BP; Anadarko; Pitkin
(Philippines and Peru); Tullow Oil; Pemex (Mexico); ANP (Brazil),
Ecopetrol (Colombia); Petronas (Malaysia) and Vale Rio Doce.

valued member of our geoscience team, we are delighted that James is
going on to such an important role in the future of petroleum
development in Tanzania, and this appointment is a tribute to the
sterling work that he has done, both for Bell Geospace and prior to
studying for a PhD his work in Tanzania for Anglo Gold and Anglo
American. We will be following his progress with great interest, and are
sure that he will bring a breadth of skill and experience to this role
that will ensure that TPDC has a significant impact on exploration and
production in Tanzania'.
