Indiana University STARTALK is a summer professional development program for teachers in Less Commonly Taught Languages (LCTL).

Are you interested in expanding your knowledge of teaching LCTLs? If so, you should attend this summer professional development program.
The IU LCTL 2018 Startalk Professional Development Program is a hands-on training of prospective and new teachers of one or more Less Commonly Taught Languages (LCTLs) at the K -16 level; these languages include Arabic, Dari, Hindi, Korean, Persian, Swahili, Turkish, Portuguese, Chinese, Russian, and Urdu.

This program will be organized in Bloomington, Indiana. There are two parts to this program. The first part will be devoted to the Online Teaching Methods Course for LCTLs developed by the UW-Madison Language Institute and NCOLCTL. The participants will be expected to complete the first two Modules before arriving in Bloomington for the residential two-week program. Overall, the program will be a three-week program; One week of distance learning and two weeks of residential face-to-face instruction in Bloomington, Indiana. Twelve new or prospective LCTL instructors will be selected to participate in this three-week intensive summer program.

           LCTLs such as Arabic, Dari, Hindu, Korean, Persian, Swahili, Turkish,
Portuguese, Chinese, Russian, and Urdu
Who: This program is open to both current and new teachers of the
previously mentioned LCTLs.
Where:The program will take place at Indiana University, 
    Bloomington, IN.
When: Program dates are: July 9-27, 2018
              July 9 -13, 2018 (One-week Non-Residential online program)
              July 16-27, 2018 (Two-week Residential program in
  Bloomington, IN).
Cost: Each participant selected for this program will receive:
(i) Reimbursement of NCOLCTL Online Course fee ($150)
(ii) Accommodation for the two-week residential program.
(iii) $450.00 (maximum), travel reimbursement for all out of town participants*
(iv) A Certificate of Completion upon successfully completing the program.
