THAMINI UHAI WON TANZANIA CSO OUTSTANDING IMPACT IN SOCIAL SERVICES DELIVERY AWARD

The CSO Excellence Awards 2019 ceremony was held on 8th November 2019 at Morena Hotel, Dodoma organized by Foundation for Civil Society(FCS), in order to celebrate, recognize and honor achievements and contributions made by different institutions or individuals that have influenced development policy and practice in Tanzania. The award ceremony gives an opportunity for organizations to showcase their activities and impact for the sake of their own public relations and fundraising activities. The awards also offer the larger group a chance to learn about the unique approaches applied by different actors in the field of development for the sake of replication of change and innovation in the sector.


Thamini Uhai won the CSO Excellence Award of Outstanding Impact in Social Services Delivery category for their outstanding work to improve women’s and newborn babies’ health especially in rural areas and marginalized communities in Kigoma, Morogoro and Pwani regions. The awards organizer received 166 nominations of people and organizations that have had an outstanding impact in a number of areas and in the category of social services delivery the finalists were Thamini Uhai, KCE and FAWOPA.

The selection for this award was made on the basis of the development impact, scale, sustainability, impact to marginalized/vulnerable groups, creativity and innovation. The CSO Excellence Award for Outstanding Impact on Social Services Delivery category was presented by the President of FCS, Dr. Stigmata Tenga and was delivered to the Executive Director of Thamini Uhai, Dr. Nguke Mwakatundu.

In his comment about the award Thamini Uhai received at CSO Excellence Awards 2019 ceremony, Dr. Nguke Mwakatundu said “We are happy to receive this award recognizing our work. Our team has been working tirelessly to improve maternal and newborn health outcomes of rural and marginalized communities and we are grateful to see the impact contributed by our organization being recognized. We take the award as a motivation towards our commitment to further help our country to meet its maternal and newborn health goals”
