President Jakaya Kikwete address the Every Woman, Every Child leaders event

 President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete addresses the Every Woman, Every Child Leaders Event of the Global Strategy for women's and Children's Health at the ECOSOC Chamber at the UN Headquarters in New York Tuesday, organised by the UN Secretary-General Mr Ban ki Moon
 President Kikwete calls for collective efforts in  improving women's and children's health and Non-Communicable Diseases control. The ‘Global Strategy for Women’s and Children’s Health’ sets out how nations can work together to save women and children. The document was developed under the auspices of the United Nations General-Secretary, Ban Ki-moon, with support and facilitation by The Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health. The Global Strategy was launched at the time of the UN Leaders’ Summit for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in 2010, with some US $ 40 billion pledged towards women’s and children’s health and the achievement of MDGs 4 & 5 – to reduce child mortality and improve maternal health.
 President Jakaya Kikwete and the Prime Minister of Canada Mr Stephen Harper,  co-Chairs  of the UN Commission on Information and Accountability for Women’s and Children’s Health, at the meeting with other panelists. The two leaders were appointed by the UN to oversee an accountability commission to prevent corruption from siphoning away funds.
