BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER VACANCIES


The Dar Teknohama Business Incubator (DTBi), an autonomous agency of the Commission for Science and Technology, is looking for two energetic and vibrant business development managers who will assist small technology companies, to grow by increasing their turnover substantially.

COSTECH[1], together with partners from the Tanzanian Private and Academic sectors, and infoDev of The World Bank, in 2011 established the DTBi as an autonomous entity, to support and facilitate the growth of innovative ICT (Information and Communications Technology) companies.  Support for early stage ICT companies is by way of lowering their cost of doing business by shared infrastructure (offices; receptionist; ICT infrastructure) and by advising and assisting them to increase their revenue streams.   The DTBi has an immediate opening and invites qualified and competent people to fill the following positions soonest. Job Titles: Business Development Manager (BDM) – 1 Position and Business Development Officer (BDO) – 1 Position

Position scope and purpose

The BDM/O are responsible for supporting companies in the incubation programme (incubatees), as well as those in the pre-incubation programme (very early stage start-up companies), in structuring and developing their business strategies, business models, business processes, and by facilitating access to business opportunities.  Performance is measured against agreed-upon targets, specifically improved revenues of the incubatees.
Duties and responsibilities

  • Coaching and support for companies in the incubation and pre-incubation programme, including:
    • Identification of strengths and weaknesses of incubatee companies (personal, business model, products and services, marketing, management, etc.) and guidance in terms of how to address and improve performance;
    • Analysis and interpretation of market conditions affecting incubatee companies including opportunities and threats, and competitor analysis;
    • The development of business growth plans, including financial targets, and ongoing performance and evaluation;
    • Negotiation of contracts;
    • The development of appropriate activities and business processes associated with sales and marketing (including the development of a sales pipeline); regulatory compliance; quality control; human resource development; financial management.

  • Relationship and network building with key private sector and government stakeholders to source business opportunities for incubatee companies and pre-incubatees.
  • Developing appropriate activities and events to attract private sector engagement, revenues and sponsorship for the incubator and its start-up companies.
  • Assisting the CEO of  the DTBi  in developing and implementing marketing programmes to attract entrepreneurs to join the DTBi

Academic Qualifications

A degree in Business Management, Economics or equivalent. An MBA will be an added advantage

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • BDM position: At least 7 years of management experience in a middle/senior management position where both business development and general management activities were undertaken and there was evidence of impact (e.g. increase in sales; company market position etc.).
  • BDO position: A Tanzanian with at least 3 years of management experience in a middle management position where business development activities were undertaken and there was evidence of impact (e.g. increase in sales; company market position etc.).
  • Entrepreneurial experience (starting and managing a small business) will be an added advantage.
  • Experience in advising growth oriented SMEs  with accompanying evidence of impact.
  • Evidence of networking and relationship building ability.
  • Evidence of negotiating and deal making ability.
  • Experience in selling ICT related services and/or products will be an advantage.
  • Computer and financial literacy.

Salary:

The salary is both attractive and competitive in the Tanzanian market, and is negotiable according to qualifications, experience and evidence of performance.
