Tanzanian boy wins karate competition in the US

A Tanzanian boy, Kevin Mwita Matinyi (9), yesterday became one of the happiest kids in the United States after winning a third place in the Kaizen Karate 4th Annual Spring Tournament (Goju Ryu style) held at the Silver Spring International Middle School in Maryland, in the suburbs of Washington DC. He won his trophy from sparring (fighting in the ring) competition for 9 - 10 years in the orange belt category. Kevin and his young brother, Eric Chacha Matinyi (6) – certainly the next year’s winner - were the only Tanzanian children in the competition that drew youngsters from several elementary schools of the State of Maryland in the United States.
The two boys, Mwita and Chacha, are congratulated by Grand Masters of the Kaizen Karate who travelled all the way from the West Coast in California to East Coast in Maryland, to officiate the competition.
