Dar es Salaam, November 24th, 2015 –Be ready for unbelievable discounts! On 27th November a unique online flash sale event, Black Friday, will take place on Jumia Tanzania (www.jumia.co.tz). Black Friday, one of the most popular shopping events in the world, is all about deals and bargain hunting during only one day. This year, Black Friday on Jumia Tanzania will start on Friday 27th November and will be extended until Monday 30th November.
Jumia is the first online mall in Africa (present in 11 countries in Africa) where customers can choose between a large range of products from fashion, to electronics such as phones and TVs. Jumia introduced Black Friday to the African market in 2013 and made it become the first and largest event of its kind in Africa. During this day, Africans search for the best deals and discounts that they would otherwise not get on a regular day.
“Originally established in the U.S. more than 50 years ago, Black Friday, which take place after Thanksgiving day, is now a well-known sales day both in the U.S. and Europe. People go mad for it. This year, we bring the concept to Tanzania. We've got mind blowing deals for our customers. And can't wait to share them!” stated Jean-Philippe Boul, Managing Director of Jumia Tanzania.

Last year, Jumia reached an all-peak in sales within 24 hours and had over 1,500,000 online visitors. Over 50% of the visitors accessed the site through a mobile device viaAndroid oriOS. These sales represented an extraordinary tenfold order increase compared to 2013's Black Friday.
“Africa’s disposable income & online consumption is growing at an extraordinary rate. In Tanzania, we expect to sell more in this year's Black Friday than in the whole of 2014. But this is just the start. We are here for the long term and have plenty more surprises to come”, added Jean-Philippe Boul
Last year's Black Friday sales primarily focused on consumer electronics, with particular interest in digital products such as flatscreen TVs, digital cameras and ventilation systems. This year, Jumia predicts that it will sell a lot more fashion & cosmetics too, with great deals such as all kinds of stylish dresses at 50% off. Jumia positions itself as the leading marketplace for high-end local and international brands. They work with everyone from local fashion brands such as Footstep (50% off!), to established mobile brands such as Samsung, Tecno or itel (up to 23% off –Tecno C8 below 274,000 TSH).  On Jumia's Black Friday, you will be able to get your hands on the Samsung Tab4 7” tablet for less than 345,000 TSH (that's 18% off!) and Sony 32” TV at 23% off.
Black Friday will also be a great occasion for Jumia Tanzania to launch InnJoo phones and tablet. InnJoo had already experienced a massive success in the other Jumia markets and is now ready to enter the promising Tanzanian market (InnJoo tablet F3, InnJoo Halo and Fire smartphones).
“By tapping into this global shopping phenomenon, with the support of our partner Ecobank Tanzania, we have created a powerful event that our customers will love.” concluded Jean-Philippe Boul.
About Black Friday
Black Friday is a popular label attached to the Friday following Thanksgiving Day in the US. This day marks the beginning of the busy shopping season during which most consumers typically start their Christmas/holiday shopping.
An explanation of the name « Black Friday » is that during that day so many people went out to shop that it caused traffic accidents and sometimes even violence. « Black Friday » officially opens the Christmas shopping season in center city, and it usually brings massive traffic jams and over-crowded sidewalks as the downtown stores are mobbed from opening to closing."
Doorcrashers, special deals and heavy discounts on the most highly sought after holiday gifts are often offered by retailers in order to lure consumers into their stores in the hope that they will purchase other, more expensive, goods. Some bargain hunting consumers have even been known to camp out overnight in order to secure a place in line at a favorite store.Www.jumia.co.tz/black-friday
