Dar es Salaam, 29 January, 2016
The High Commissioners and Ambassadors to Tanzania of Belgium, Canada, Denmark, the European Union, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States, today issued the following statement regarding the recent announcement of an election re-run in Zanzibar:
“We reiterate our concern with the Zanzibar Electoral Commission’s decision to annul the election of October 25, 2015, without having provided evidence to substantiate its claim that irregularities had taken place, and despite the positive assessments of electoral observation missions conducted by the Commonwealth Secretariat, the African Union, the Southern African Development Community, the East African Community, the European Union, and the United States of America.
“We regret that an election re-run was announced, while a dialogue between parties was still ongoing. For the benefit of all Tanzanians, we reaffirm our belief that the current political impasse in Zanzibar would be best addressed through a mutually acceptable and negotiated solution.
“We are deeply concerned that the unilateral declaration of a re-run may lead to an escalation of intimidation and tensions. We commend the population of Zanzibar for having exercised calm and restraint to this date, and call on all parties and their supporters to continue to work together towards finding a peaceful solution.
“In order to be credible, electoral processes must be inclusive and representative. Under the current circumstances, the provision of international electoral observation would be difficult to consider.
“We urge President Magufuli to exercise leadership in this political impasse, and to pursue his previous calls for a negotiated solution between parties, so as to ensure a peaceful outcome, but also one that ensures the integrity of the electoral process.

Hawa wazungu wendawazimu. Waacheni waropoke. Hapa kazi tu. Agenda yao kuzua ugomvi kila mahali waendelee kutunyonya na kutawala. Tumeshastuka siku hizi. Maalim aende kwao
Based on what I have heard and seen, none of the parties involved in the botched negotiation was negotiating in good faith. On the one hand, CUF would not accept any outcome other than having ZEC declare Maalim as the winner. On the other hand, CCM was not interested in reinstating the nullified election results. Good faith negotiation, as I understand it, is a give-and-take process. Here you have a power hunger-stricken thug trying to negotiate a political deal with a power-preserving thug! Funny! The ultimate loser is the common man. WAPUMBAVU WAKUBWA HAWA!
Very good and open statement!
Dear foreign ambassadors, (who have ganged together) to represent the interests of your countries...I beg you please, NOT to interfere with the politics of our country. Don't dictate to us or our president Dr. Magufuli what should or shouldn't be done to resolve the political stalemate in Zanzibar. Tanzania, has never interfered with your countries internal affairs. Most of you come from countries which have disparities in political representation, where one race dominates the rest. So who are you, to tell us what needs to be done? We are a sovereign nation, and no handouts are needed, period! Sorry diplomats, the Tanzanian people will NOT ENTERTAIN NEOCOLONIALISM, and our FREEDOM shall prevail!!
What is goin on here is the ZEC going to announce the votes just like they did in NEC on October 25 election. They have already planned and cast their numbers accordingly, and therefore they are winner even for those going to lineup to cast their vote no count is going to take place! Zanzibar has a very few number of voters to compare with bara! They know what they are doing just to announce the winning as they have said before that they are not ready to give out "Serikali ya Mapinduzi"!! Therefore CUF they don't see the clue of participating. How much money are ZEC planning to lose for something they have already planned! DON'T call announcers Wapumbavu. Asante.
"Don't call announcers Wapumbavu"!
Later when the military rulers put a show of an election the same governments quickly declared the election free and fare! Double standards. Kweli kwa heshma watuache ili tuendelee kuheshmiana.
Wazungu bwana kweli kizungumkuti
