Maisha Alumni selected for Luxor International Film Festival 2016

Four Maisha Film Lab alumni short films have been selected for the 5th edition of Luxor International Film Festival, student competition. These films were produced as a result of Maisha screenwriting labs funded by ACP and DOEN Stichting in 2014 and 2015 respectively. Join us in congratulating Robert Katoggo for 'White Faces' (Uganda), Robert Nyanzi for 'Kai, The Vendor' (Uganda), Sibomana Jules for 'My Ball' (Rwanda) and 'Benko H. Pluvier for 'A Ride In A Coffin' (Rwanda) for their nominations. Bring home the prize money!!

FilmAid uses the power of film and media to transcend language and literacy, bringing life-saving information, psychological relief and much-needed hope to refugees and other communities in need around the globe. FilmAid envisions a world in which all people can lead safe and healthy lives, enjoying full access to information, education and the opportunity for creative expression.

Over the past 16 years, FilmAid has served displaced populations and their host communities in Kenya, Tanzania, Macedonia, Afghanistan, US Gulf Coast, Haiti and the Thai/ Myanmar border. This year FilmAid shall serve displaced communities in Uganda.

Amakula International Film Festival Tickets

The Amakula International Film Festival is Uganda’s oldest independent film festival that aims to contribute to a vibrant local film industry, by broadening access to and developing audiences for quality African film production; inspiring local film makers to produce quality local films based on own stories; facilitating, presenting and promoting local film productions; and offering a professional networking platform for the film making community in East Africa and beyond.

After nine consecutive successful festival editions from 2004 to 2012 and a period of reflection, the Amakula International Film Festival is now set to return to the scene and screen to celebrate its 10th anniversary edition in March 2016.

Tickets are now available at available at these offices,Maisha Film Lab office,Bayimba office,Goethe Zentrum, Kampala,Kampala Film School,Uganda Museum and National Theater. Tickets for adults (5 days including opening and award night 50,000 UGX and students (5 days including opening and award night) 30,000UG.

Zanzibar International Film Festival

Each year ZIFF exhibits more than 60 films made in Africa, the Middle East, Europe, Latin America, USA and Asia. The theme of the 2016 Festival is This Journey of Ours: Ndiyo hii Safari Yetu.

The main competition for the Golden Dhow and Silver Dhow awards is open exclusively to filmmakers from the Dhow countries. These include countries of the Indian Ocean Rim and Indian Ocean Islands, such as Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan; and all African countries. The Sembene Ousmane Award Competition is only for African and Diaspora filmmakers and partner producers.

ZIFF is accepting feature, short, fiction, documentary and animation film submissions, with a particular focus on films produced by African and Dhow country directors.

Online submissions from Tanzania are free, as well as music video entries from East Africa. All other submissions are $3-$5.

The deadline for submissions is 29 February 2016.

Durban International Film Festival

The Durban International Film Festival (DIFF) invites filmmakers from across the world to submit their Short, Documentary or Feature Fiction films to screen in the festival from the 16 to 26 June 2016.
Only films completed in 2014, 2015 and 2016 will be considered, and there is no charge for entry. The deadline for all entries (short films, documentaries and feature fiction films), including delivery of screeners, is 29 February 2016.

This year’s festival will feature a focus on the important issue of HIV and Aids within film; DIFF invites filmmakers with films on this subject to submit for consideration in this category.

International Images Film Festival for Women

The International Images Film Festival for Women (IIFF) 2016 retains the theme WOMEN ALIVE: WOMEN OF HEART! The theme celebrates for the third year running tough women who possess the rare gift of loving unconditionally; daring women, women who despite daily challenges emerge stronger.

The Festival is calling for features, documentaries and shorts in all genres for the main competition as well as non-competition and special competitions categories. To be eligible for the main competition, films must feature a woman in one of the three leading roles. Deadline is 15 May 2016.

Slum Film Festival
Slum Film Festival is the first ever film platform-featuring stories from slums, about slum realities and made by filmmakers from the slums in Africa – and beyond. It is a celebration of the creativity of filmmakers living and working in slums.

The 6th Annual Slum Film Festival (SFF) held in Nairobi, Kenya is open to professional and amateur filmmakers from across the continent. SFF exhibits the best films from and about the informal settlements around the world and celebrates independent filmmakers in venues 2nd to none!

The festival will award winners from nominated entries by the panel of judges in the following categories.
