MOBILIZE4HEALTH FORUM NOVEMBER 9, 2019 WASHINGTON DC, USA

Greetings,

In November 2017, DICOTA decided to unconventionally host an all-day Healthcare Forum. This first of its kind forum, which focused on the role of Tanzania’s diaspora in improving healthcare,  proved to be a great success! Over 130 healthcare enthusiasts and practitioners, including Tanzanian Government Officials, healthcare professionals, non-profit and business leaders, and friends of Tanzania, attended the event. The stories, experiences, and insights shared at the Forum were just incredibly inspiring. To keep our enthusiasm going, we created the #TZDiasporaAfya WhatsApp group; now boasting 170 members, it remains a vibrant place where health enthusiasts from all corners of the world discuss and engage exclusively, on “healthcare in Tanzania.”

While the 2017 Health Forum was a resounding success, our work had just begun. Harnessing meaningful diaspora engagement to improve health care at home requires collective action in unison. It takes a village! This is why DICOTA has decided to host a second Health Forum. Our 2019 theme, Mobilize4Health, aspires to bring and bind great minds together, while at the same time kindling a fire deep within their hearts, that each of us will be moved in our own ways to improve healthcare in Tanzania. It also calls upon us to step into action. Many of us are just waiting to be activated. When we do, and get re-connected and engage in action, our collective song will pleasantly surprise many.

So, today, I cordially invite you to join us on November 9, 2019, at the Howard University School of Law in Washington DC. Let’s join our powerful and resourceful minds, our expertise, and our love for Tanzania because it is only when we go together, can we go far.

With gratitude,

Frank J. Minja, MD
President, Diaspora Council of Tanzanians in America
