LIKE THE APPLICATION AND VOTE FOR IT.

Background: Child undernutrition is a major contributor of global burden of disease. About 42% of children under five years of age in Tanzania are chronically malnourished and 5% are acutely malnourished (TDHS, 2010 …. Old data!).

Problem: Lack of sound information system for continuous monitoring of the trends of child undernutrition for policy and programmatic decisions to improve the nutrition situation in the country.

Solution: Equip community health workers with cellular phones through which they will collect data, check that it is correctly entered, and report it to the central location in a timely manner using integrated cellular phone programs (apps). This system has big potential to fix the data gap that currently exists by overcoming issues of distance and poor infrastructure often cited as bottlenecks for data collection.

Project: The proposed project will test this idea and if successful, the system could be scaled up to other areas of the country.
