Heavy rain prompts the cancellation of Sudan v Tanzania in the Nile Basin friendly tournament
Sudan’s match against Tanzania in the Nile Basin tournament fifth-place playoff has been cancelled due to the heavy rain in Cairo. Egypt-Kenya semi-final  game should however be played on time according to the Egyptian Football Association (EFA).

The Sudan-Tanzania match was due to be played at Ittihad El-Shorta’s stadium on Friday afternoon but Ugandan referee Dennis Batte deemed the pitch unplayable. “The torrential rain in Cairo prompted the referee to call off the game as it heavily affected the pitch,” the EFA said in a statement.
“The tournament’s organizing committee will convene later to make a final decision over the match.
“The committee could decide to postpone the match and select another date for it. The outcome will depend on the circumstances of both teams.”
Sudan finished at the bottom of the three-team Group B after suffering two defeats by the Democratic Republic of Congo and Kenya.
Tanzania could not also bag any win in Group A, losing against Egypt and Burundi and drawing with Tanzania.
DR Congo face Uganda and African champions Egypt take on Kenya in the semi finals later on Friday.
