Chadema Councillor for Iseke ward, Ikungi district in Singida region, Mr Amos Reuben Mghenyi has resigned from his post.
Mr Mghenyi said that his decision was voluntary without persuasion or being convinced by anyone and that he came to that decision because he disagreed with various party policies.
“I decided to quit my post because I have been feeling like some party policies prevent people’s contributions towards national development,” he said, noting that he ceased being the ward’s councillor with effect from December 21.
He cited an incident where he was barred by his party, Chadema, from cooperating with government leaders at the district and regional level in implementing and supervising various development projects.
“I have been under pressure from my party not to allow people to contribute towards development activities in my ward on the pretext that the task of bringing development to people solely lies with the government.
“You see, the Iseke Ward Development Committee (WDC) has decided to start a fundraising campaign to enable us construct classrooms and a laboratory for our secondary school but my party has barred me from participating simply because the proposed guest of honour is a government minister”, he alleged.
Mr Mghenyi said he disapproved such antidevelopment policies saying he found it better to step aside so that my people can be free to undertake any development projects they deemed right.
The councillor said that he would remain an ardent and faithful member of the party, brushing aside talk of defecting to another political party. Singida District Executive Director (DED), Ms Illuminata Mwenda confirmed to have received the resignation letter from Mr Mghenyi and that she has already informed the Regional Authorities and Local Government head office for further action.
The Singida East Member of Parliament where Iseke ward is located, Mr Tundu Lissu, also from Chadema, has time and again reiterated his stand that his people would never contribute towards any development activities in the area as that was the role of the government.
