Katavi RC: Stop misleading farmers on Minjingu fertilisers

Katavi Regional Commissioner, Dr Rajab Rutengwe has warned agricultural extension officers in the region misleading and discouraging farmers, saying that Minjingu fertilizers was unsuitable for the region.
Dr Rutengwe has said he would not hesitate taking disciplinary measures against the malicious campaign. According to the RC, with the on-going efforts of sensitizing farmers and encouraging them to apply minjingu mazao during this farming season, yet most of them are still reluctant to apply over their fields on fear that it would harm their produces, the panic which has been exaggerated by some of the agriculture extension officers on the reasons best known to themselves.

However, the farmers reported to have trust on other fertilizers including DAP and NPK which are very popular to them. He further warned that he would never close his eyes over the unfounded rumors by some of the agriculture extension officials.

“This is intolerable, I will discipline them all once are proved guilty, because they are misleading our farmers as the fertilizer in question has been improved in quality, by adding several othernutrients,” added the RC. According to RC Rutengwe, the present challenges villagers are facing include short supply of subsidized agriculture input and fertilizers in voucher systems compared to the high demands.

So he advised wealthy farmers to buy their own agriculture inputs instead of waiting for the subsidized one which are insufficient. The RC further expounded that during this farming season, the region has received 80,900 vouchers and they have already been distributed to the farmers in the region.
