The Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister, Mr Bernard Membe
Foreign Ministers of the four countries forming the Southern African Development Community (SADC) organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation (TROICA) met here to deliberate on issues facing the region at the moment.
Ministers from Tanzania, Namibia, Mozambique and South Africa under the chairmanship of the Tanzanian Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr Bernard Membe, meet over the state of affairs in Eastern DRC, Madagascar and Zimbabwe.
Briefing reporters in Dar es Salaam yesterday, Mr Membe said the first agenda will deliberate on Madagascar’s political stalemate ahead of preparations of its general elections scheduled for May this year.
“Ministers discussed the state of affairs and will forward suggestions to the SADC TROICA Heads of State meeting on how better and peaceful the elections can be held considering the present situation,” he said.
The next agenda he said will be on developments in Eastern DRC’s particularly on the involvement of the International Neutral Force (INC) under the leadership of Tanzania.
On DRC, he said, President Jakaya Kikwete had received the United Nations recommendations about ten days ago on how Tanzania and partners through INC can play a major role in ending conflicts in the troubled parts of the country.
The last but equally important agenda, according to the minister, was about Zimbabwe which also expects to hold general elections between June and September this year where SADC is fully involved to make sure it ends amicably unlike previous elections.
