Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) has questioned the credibility of election results submitted by returning officers at the national tallying centre.
CORD claimed that the results from Returning Officers are “largely compromised”.
“There have been reports of ballot boxes in TNA areas being moved around and stuffed up. There are cases in TNA strongholds where the vote tally announced is more than the number of registered voters,” they said.
CORD wants all presiding officers to be present at Bomas of Kenya, Nairobi, which is the national tallying centre, to verify results submitted by returning officers.
Manual tallying
The electoral commission yesterday resorted to manual tallying following an agreement with political parties to have tallying of the results done afresh with form 33 being collected from all polling stations nationwide.
“The Electronic Transmission System that IEBC was using to get information from returning officers failed and the commission therefore does not have the data to release to the public,” said a statement from CORD
The coalition added: “ IEBC is treating the public to information that creates the impression that the lead by Uhuru is insurmountable. CORD believes there is connivance by IEBC in releasing whatever results that are coming in with a constant lead of about 500,000 votes.
At 1am yesterday 5.6 million votes had been counted: Uhuru had 2,789,000 valid votes (53.37 per cent) while Raila held onto 2,198,714 (42.06 per cent).
More than 330,000 of the ballots counted were rejected as spoilt votes.
