PINGO director’s wife shot in Arusha

Mr Edward Porokwa

Unknown people have shot and wounded the wife of the Director of the Pastoralist Indigenous Non-Government Organizations (PINGOS) Forum, Mr Edward Porokwa – Flora — who is also a human rights activist.
Mrs Porokwa, who is currently admitted to the Arusha Lutheran Medical Centre (Selian Hospital), was reportedly shot while driving home last Wednesday night.
Apparently, the attackers, whoever they were, did not steal anything from either their victim or her car, according to initial police reports.
The motive behind the shooting is still not known although some theories have it that the assailants might have mistaken her for her husband. Mrs Porokwa was heading to their Sakina residence when the attackers, who might possibly have been following the car, shot through the rear window, seriously injuring her.

According to reliable reports, Mrs Porokwa summed up enough courage despite the injuries and sped on for almost a kilometre, managing to evade her pursuers.

She finally managed to get near her residence before passing out and collapsing on the wheel. Mrs Porokwa was discovered lying unconscious inside the car and was rushed to the Selian Lutheran Hospital in the city centre where she is still being treated. “She is doing well in hospital and there is no reason to worry so far.

But we are also at a loss regarding the identity of the assailants. Hopefully, the police will eventually solve the mystery,” said Mr Porokwa, when we contacted him by phone on Thursday.

The incident occurred at the same time when another woman in Arusha, whose name is yet to be revealed, died on the spot at the entrance of her Ngaramtoni residence after being shot by unknown people on a motorcycle.
