Musicians, Bands and artists Biographies

As we are down to less than Three Months to the Karibu Music Festival, 3rd Edition (November 4 - 6, 2016)

We would like to share some our confirmed Musicians, Bands and artists who will headline this year's festival, Short biographies;

1. SIPHOKAZI - (South Africa)

Siphokazi was born in the the Eastern Cape of South Africa. She started her career as a backing vocalist for established musicians like Stimela, Ringo, Zamajobe, Tshepo Tsola and also did studio sessions for many SA artists and musicians,in the process she was studying Music Technology.She has released 3 albums so far and she is working on her fourth one. Her first album sold more than 100 000 copies and counting. Siphokazi is well known for her popular song AMACALA which became the national anthem in the music industry and the whole country


2. KARAKEEB - (Egypt)

Karakeeb band is a fusion of different musical styles, In 2011 when the members of the band first meet, they chose the name karakeeb and agreed to discuss both the political and social problems of there area in the form of songs that have enjoyed some ironic lyrics . These songs carry the content of stories from political and social facts but in a sarcastic way , as it is the nearest to the Egyptians as a whole also , by displaying problems with this modern style.

3. INAFRIKA BAND - (Tanzania)

The Inafrika Band was formed in 1992 by two brothers Roy and Enrico Figueiredo. The band at the time was mostly a cover type band and performed in small pubs and Restaurants around Dar-es-salaam. The band had a permanent Contract with Tanzanias five star hotel the Kilimanjaro in 1996 and also backed International Musicians like Yvonne Chaka Chaka ,Sarafina and Mwale sisters

4. CHRISTINE KAMAU - (Kenya)

Christine Kamau is a Trumpeter, performing/recording artist in the Kenyan music scene,Christine released an 8-track instrumental afro-jazz album in 2012 titled This is for You, worked on with Cameroonian music producer Romeo Kouemeni, She has been featured in a musical program by the BBC world service titled "Africa Beats" a series that showcases emerging music talent from Africa

5. THE CITY - (South Africa)

TheCITY is a Future Afro band from Cape Town, South Africa.Guided by a strong belief in paying tribute to their musical heritage, they blend African rhythms and grooves with electronic sounds and soulful melodies. In April 2015 they successfully launched their self-titled, debut EP, which received extensive airplay and outstanding reviews:

TheCITY Tanzanian Tour is supported by the Music Mobility Fund, a funding mechanism administered by Concerts SA which offers opportunities for South African musicians to undertake live music tours.

6. THIRD HAND MUSIC - (Kenya)

Third Hand Music is a band with unique individuals who bring their explosive talent together to create a unique and original sound, Their sound is best described as R&B/Soul which draws its inspiration from Hip-Hop, Jazz and Reggae.

7. MOSES ZAMANGWA - (Tanzania)

was born in the southern part of Tanzania.His Music Journey started 16 Years ago and almost half of his music career he was playing Guitar with various gospel Band. Six Year ago he started to play Saxophone and it became his No.1 instrument. Now he stands as one of the Leading Saxophonist in Tanzania and East Africa in general. Moses has toured the world with his Saxophone in the countries such Indonesia, Qatar, Turkey, Germany, Swaziland, France, Australia and many more together with Vipaji Band

8. NAFTALI OF THE ROYAL FAMILY - (South Africa)

Born in Pretoria and growing up in Mamelodi Pretoria, Naftali has always been inspired by music. he was always participating in the school concerts, and his musical presents was always felt. As his musical talents grew it became more and more apparent that his voice was something unique and special, fusing together styles from South, West and East Africa

9. TRIBUTE BIRDIE MBOWENI - (South Africa)

With her debut album, titled “Birdie”. A singer and songwriter Birdie is proving to be a force to reckon with. Her voice is so strong, soulful and wrapped up in both neo-soul, pop world and yet so jazzy. Birdie has joined a new breed of soul musicians that are putting their own modern take on the classic sound, and doing it justice. Her voice evokes raw, organic emotion that penetrates deep into your heart and makes you feel some type of way, however you want to define the feeling.

10. TONGWA ENSEMBLE (Tanzania)

Godykaozya & The Tongwa Ensemble is a Band located in Bagamoyo The group was created by Justin Godykaozya a Teacher in Music and Music Technology in 2009 with the aim of motivating and inspires students to love and learn Music.
The Band is a mix between Teachers, formal Students and Students of the Organization (TongwaArts Promotion)
