*Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL) and AB InBev celebrated its annual Global Be(er) Responsible Day on Friday, 15th September 2017.

This year’s theme “Drink Smart Today, Celebrate Tomorrow”, is focused on bringing awareness to issues of harmful drinking and promoting smart drinking within the business, amongst the company’s partners and its consumers.

“Harmful drinking concerns us, and we know that more needs to be done by us, our industry, peers, civil society and government to reduce the harm caused by the misuse of alcohol. As a global brewer, TBL Group is committed to playing its part and working with communities and the public sector in finding effective solutions to the problem,” says Georgia Mutagahywa, Corporate Affairs Director, East Africa.

TBL Group has implemented several initiatives in partnership with private and public-sector partners, to tackle the problem of harm cause by the misuse of alcohol. These initiatives are embedded within the organization’s Better World sustainable development strategy under the Healthier World pillar with the aspiration of a healthier world where every experience with beer is a positive one.

These initiatives form part of the organization’s Global Smart Drinking Goals which encapsulate its efforts to make a deeper investment in programmes that measurably shift social norms and behaviors toward smart drinking.

The initiatives include:

•We have an internal program (Alcohol, Behavior and Communication), that trains all our employees on responsible consumption

•Road Safety Initiative, where we work with the Tanzania Police Force to help enforce our responsibility and safety messages, as well as test drivers of long distance routes to make sure they are in good health drive.

•Responsible Consumption trainings; we annually train the police force, the press and teachers on the dangers of drinking and driving.

•We also train and talk about responsible consumption messages at all and any forum we are invited to.

•Boda Boda (Motorcycle) drivers on responsible consumption.

•Partnership with select retailers to place posters with our smart drinking goals message. At TBL Group, we believe that smart drinking choices affect everyone, every day. “We are committed to helping foster a global culture of smart drinking to reduce the harmful use of alcohol, said Ms. Mutagahywa”

During TBL Group’s Global Be(er) Responsible Day, employees will be encouraged to think about the responsible and safety messages as well as take responsibility and drink moderately in social settings.
