Gunman on the loose at Indiana college campus as police still search for suspect and warn students to stay indoors

On the loose; Gunman reported on campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis on Tuesday afternoon

Police were informed when a female student saw a white man with a 'long gun or rifle' walking near the nursing building at around 12.30pm.

There have been no reports of any shootings or injured parties but the scene is still under active investigation as police are telling all those near the campus to stay indoors.

The school has been constantly updating their Twitter account and continue to stress that as of 2.30pm local time it is still under active alert. 

Local station WISH TV says that in spite of these warnings, students have been seen walking across campus. 

They also report that IU Health University Hospital and Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health- which are both located on the Indianapolis campus- have been placed on lockdown as a result.
