The United Nations systems in Tanzania in
collaboration with the Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC) ) cordially invites the
media to the launch of 2013 World Investment Report(WIR) subtitled : "Global Value Chains –
Investment and Trade for Development". The launch will be
held at ILO Conference Hall, along Maktaba Street on Wednesday, 10 July, 2013,
at 1000-1130am.
The WIR is the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development ( UNCTAD) annual flagship report, analysing trends in foreign direct investment (FDI) worldwide, at the regional and country levels, as well as emerging issues around the investment-development nexus. Each year, the Report selects a specific topic related to FDI and development. The report will be launched by the TIC Executive Director, Ms Juliet Kairuki and UNCTAD’s Chief of Technical Cooperation Ms. Manuela Tortora.

Each year, the Report selects a specific topic related to FDI and development. This year's theme, is important from a policy
perspective since it goes to the heart of countries' sustainable development strategies
in respect of global value chains (GVCs). In this context, the Report provides
in-depth analysis of recent developments with regard to GVCs, their impact
on trade, investment and sustainable development and – based on these findings
– identify policy challenges and recommendations. The Report will therefore
address questions such as:
· How do international production networks of
transnational corporations (TNCs) shape
value added trade?
· In which countries and which industries are
GVCs most significant?
· What is the impact of value
added trade and GVCs on sustainable development?
· How should policymakers reflect
the growing importance of GVCs in countries’
development strategies?
· How to maximize development
benefits from integrating into GVCs and how to
minimize
associated risks?
