I was very much disappointed by the quality of the interviewer (Shaka) and the interviewees, especially on Tanzania's elections. Prof. Nicholls Boas was in Tanzania for a few days and is presented here as an expert in Tanzanian politics BUT could not articulate the real intricacies and differences between UKAWA and CCM and what is at stake in choosing either Magufuli or Lowasa. Why are the passions running so high for and against change?

This interview was nothing but an intellectual abuse to us listeners and viewers. Even if you had a minimum understanding of Tanzanian politics you must have been insulted by the mediocrity of the discourse presented in the program. I didn't watch the program live but saw it in Vijimambo and I was yelling at my computer screen all the time.

VOA guys/gals, you can do better than this.

Next time you want to discuss Tanzanian politics or any other issue for that matter, please get people who have deep understanding of the issues and their subtleties.

It is too extreme and politically incorrect to call someone ignorant simply because of disagreement. We need to be polite and learn how to use convincing power to reason our views. We may not always agree on everything, but we can agree to disagree.

I didn't insult anyone. I just said that the level of discourse was mediocre and that the discussants, especially Prof. Boas was quoting anecdotes from the streets as facts.

For instance, the article in Vijimambo today which highlights the interview by Swahilivilla's with the good Professor is full of inaccuracies presented here as "" results. In this research the Professor would go to meetings and eyeball the size of the crowds and concludes who has more support in this election. What he is not saying (and I hope it is out of ignorance) is that both CCM and UKAWA spend lots of money ferrying people by buses, buy gas for boda bodas and pay people to round up throngs of spectators to these meeting. So when you see large crowds at a CCM meeting it doesn't mean all those are Magufuli supporters.

Prof. Boas may be a good scholar in his field but in this case he leaves a lot to be desired. The Professor went to Tanzania, attended a few rallies, had some discussion with a few English-speaking elites ()and comes to VOA or Swahilivilla as this expert who is going to lecture us "ignorant" Tanzanians what is wrong with our country's politics - pathetic. The Professor certainly is handicapped when it comes to the subtleties of Tanzanian politics and VOA shouldn't have presented him as such in the VOA interview.

In his interview with Swahilivilla, he was very gracious with complements to Tanzania - thank you - but he was again lacking a deep understanding of the main issues that make people (on both sides) highly motivated in this upcoming elections.

I commend the Professor's call to Tanzanians to go and cast their votes freely and peacefully. However, I call it the way I see it. The level of discussion in that VOA interview was mediocre.
