As we get ready for the opening ceremonies of the 2016 Olympics in Rio, UN Women would like to take this opportunity to support and promote the participation of young women and girls in sports and athletics. Reaching the Olympics is every athlete’s dream, and we are so proud of the young women and girls who have fought against the odds, and defied gender stereotypes to compete at the highest levels of athletics.
Please join us in supporting these fierce young women and girls. Attached is a short opinion piece/editorial written jointly by UN Women Executive Director Dr. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka and 15 year old Thaiza Vitoria da Silva, a handball player carrying the Olympic Torch.
We hope you can publish or feature it in your Friday and weekend editions. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any further questions.
Thank you for your time!
Best wishes,
Deepika
