DICOTA UPDATES ON: LAND OWNERSHIP AND DIASPORA POLICY DEVELOPMENT IN TANZANIA

Published: November 6, 2016

DICOTA wishes to inform its members and the Tanzanian diaspora at large that they have followed up on the following matters in recent weeks:

1.     On Monday October 31, 2016 we sent an inquiry to relevant government sectors seeking clarification on the issues surrounding land ownership in Tanzania. We do understand the protection and safe custody of these assets is important to many and, we are diligently working to find some answers to your concerns. Also as requested, we coordinated a meeting with Tanzanian association leaders in the U.S. to discuss the issue further.

2.     In late September, DICOTA Leadership held a strategic planning retreat. At the retreat, DICOTA reviewed a letter received from President Magufuli thanking DICOTA for inviting him to the 2016 Convention and reaffirming his support for the diaspora. In response to the letter, DICOTA reached out to President Magufuli and requested that DICOTA and the diaspora at large have a greater role in the development of the Tanzania Diaspora Policy. The Diaspora policy will be an integral part of ongoing efforts and initiatives for the development of Tanzania and will articulate the role and rights of the Tanzania diaspora. We look forward to hearing back and sharing with Tanzania diaspora community the outcome of our requests.
